Lester wins Red Sox Pitcher of the Year!

Southpaw was 15-8 with 3.41 ERA, career-high 225 strikeouts.

On the same day Jacoby Ellsbury was voted Defensive Player of the Year during MLB.com's annual This Year In Baseball Awards, Jon Lester was named Red Sox Pitcher of the Year by the Boston chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America on Thursday.

The 24-year-old left-hander becomes the first Red Sox pitcher to take the honor in back-to-back seasons since Pedro Martinez captured it three years in a row from 1998-2000. Lester is the only southpaw to accomplish the feat twice in a row.

Lester went 15-8 with a 3.41 ERA in 32 starts this past season. He led all Major League lefties and finished third in the American League with a career-high 225 strikeouts.

Other honorees announced this week included Rays first baseman Carlos Pena as New England Player of the Year, new Red Sox first-base coach Ron Johnson as Unsung Hero, and longtime Providence Journal Red Sox beat writer Steve Krasner as the Dave O'Hara Award winner.

The dinner for the awards is scheduled for Jan. 14 at the Westin-Waterfront Hotel in South Boston. Tickets for the event are $150 each and can be purchased by sending a check to Boston Chapter-BBWAA, P.O. Box 7346, Nashua, N.H. 03060.
